1979年から1991年にかけて活動したイギリスのニューウェイヴバンドFurniture。ジャズ、ブルース、ポストパンクまでを吸収した折衷的な音楽性を特徴とする彼らは、物語性豊かな歌詞と楽曲の高いクオリティで評価される一方、幾度もの挫折に見舞われたことで大きなブレイクを果たせず、当時隆盛を極めた英国ニューウェイヴシーンの影に隠れることとなった。

1986年のシングル「Brlliant Mind」は全英シングルチャート最高21位を記録し、彼らにとって唯一のチャートインを果たした代表曲。ソングライター/ヴォーカリストのジム・アーヴィンは、失業給付の手続きを済ませた直後、バスに乗っている時にサビが降りてきたと回想している。同曲は2ndアルバム「The Wrong People」からの先行シングルとなり、アルバムは後年カルト・クラシックとして支持を集めた。

同曲の発売40周年を記念し、12インチ・シングルを当時の仕様そのままに、イエローとレッドのハーフ＆ハーフのカラーヴァイナルで復刻する。

Information

Furniture is British new wave band active between 1979 and 1991, but were far more eclectic than you'd think, incorporating jazz, blues and post-punk sounds as well. They are noted both for their poetic storytelling and high-quality productions as for the numerous setbacks they experienced. These setbacks ultimately prevented them from making their big break, making them a big what-if of the burgeoning English new wave scene.
The band's 1986 single Brlliant Mind eventually reached number 21 on the UK Singles Chart and remain's their only entry on it. Writer and vocalist Jim Irvin recalled that the chorus came to him ont he bus, just after registering for unemployment benefits. It became the first single of their second album The Wrong People, which became a cult classic in later years. Now, on its 40th anniversary, we are reissuing the 12" single in its original form, on special half yellow and half red coloured vinyl.
