1932年神戸生まれ。
東京大学入学後、すぐに「ジャズ研究班」に入る。
当時は東京六大学ジャズリーグ戦が行われた程のジャズ・ブーム。
進駐軍で演奏、時にはまだ10代の松尾和子をフィーチャーしてのライブもあったそう。
その後新卒で商社に入社し、1964年から77年までニューヨークに赴任。
1960年代後半のSense of Freedom(自由の息吹)ムーヴメントを生で感じ得たことが、その後の佐井のジャズマンとして大きな影響を与える。
1993年に定年退職。
甥のブルースマン吾妻光良と彼のトリオで、年に１度、多くて２度のセッションが始まる。
このレコードは5年分のセッションの記録を、あたかも一夜のセッションに聞こえるかのような魅惑の宵なライブ・アルバムだ。
Artist Profile
Shigeaki Sai is born in Kobe in 1932.
After entering the University of Tokyo, he joined the "Jazz Research Group"
At the time, the jazz boom was so great that the Tokyo Six University Jazz League Tournament was held.
He played for the Occupation Forces, sometimes featuring Kazuko Matsuo, who was still in her teens.
He then joined a trading company as a new graduate and was posted to New York from 1964 to 1977.
His firsthand experience of the Sense of Freedom movement in the late 1960s had a great influence on him as a jazzman.
He retired in 1993 and then he began to play with his nephew, bluesman Mitsuyoshi Azuma and his trio once a year, often twice a year.
This album is an enchanting evening live album that records five years worth of sessions and makes them sound as if they were a single night session.
