チェット・ベイカー：1929年オクラホマ州イェール出身のジャズ・トランペッター〜ヴォーカリスト。1951年に除隊するとロサンゼルスで演奏活動を開始、マイルス・デイヴィスのトランペットに影響を受けそのクールなスタイルで人気となった。スタン・ゲッツやチャーリー・パーカーと共演し、1952年にバリトン・サックスのジェリー・マリガンと結成したピアノレス・カルテットで人気となった。1954年にヴォーカリストとして吹き込んだ『チェット・ベイカー・シングス』で人気を決定づけるとアイドル的な存在となり、“ジャズ界のジェームス・ディーン”と呼ばれ一時はマイルス・デイヴィスをも凌ぐ人気ぶりだった。1950年代後半から麻薬のトラブルでヨーロッパに拠点を移し、幾度かの挫折を経験した後1970年代後半に復活、その後再びヨーロッパに活路を求め世界中でコンサートを行ったが1988年にオランダでホテルから転落し亡くなった。

Chet Baker was a one of the most iconic American jazz musician and singer in Jazz history. Born on 1929, in Yale, Oklahoma, after released from US army, he relocated in Los Angels. he collaborated with Stan Gets and Charlie Parker, then He formed legendary Gerry Mulligan/Chet Baker quartet in 1952. in 1954, he got a huge success with his album 『Chet Baker Sings』 . critics says “James Dean of Jazz” at that time. he moved to Europe in end of 1950’s because he always had a drug problem. he disappeared while late 1960’s to mid 1970’s but he was coming back in late 1970’s. after break, Chet relocated in Europe, very active for concert tour and recording but in 1988, he died cause incidents where Chet fall from the window at Amsterdam hotel.

West Coast Cool Jazz Icon, Jazz trumpet player Chet Baker. jazz critics says he is the “James Dean of Jazz”. he was also attractive as a person and his appeal was unflagging even when he was an old. the long awaited his concert in Japan was booked in 1986. it was recorded while his first Japan tour in Sendai City, March 1986. this 『Chet Baker Live In Japan ~ 1986 Sendai VOL.1』is absolutely special live album, his favorite song「But Not For Me」and he rarely played「Round Midnight」on this. Japanese fans have really been looking forward to see in moment and Chet played to live up to expectations.
